Nhon Trach 3&4 power plant, equipped with GE Vernova’s advanced H-Class gas turbines, wins double honors at 2026 POWER Awards

GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) announced that Nhon Trach 3&4 Power Plant, equipped with the company’s 9HA.02 gas turbines, has earned double honors at the 2026 POWER Awards. The plant was recognized with the “Plant of the Year” Award and won first prize in the “Top Plants – Fossil Fuels” category for its successful deployment of advanced and innovative technology while maximizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. The dual recognition underscores the significance of Vietnam’s first LNG-fired and first HA-powered power plant as a new benchmark for high-efficiency gas generation, while marking a meaningful milestone for the deployment of GE Vernova’s H-Class technology in Southeast Asia.

Owned and operated by PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), Nhon Trach 3&4 was developed with Samsung C&T and Lilama serving as the EPC consortium. Located in Ong Keo Industrial Park in Dai Phuoc commune, approximately 70 kilometers southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, the plant has a total generation capacity of more than 1.6 GW.

Powered by GE Vernova’s advanced H-class gas turbines, Nhon Trach 3&4 achieves more than 63% combined-cycle efficiency, placing it among the most efficient facilities of its kind globally, while generating approximately 61% fewer carbon emissions than coal-fired plants of equivalent output. Its high-efficiency and flexible generation capabilities are designed to support reliable power supply while providing the responsiveness needed in an increasingly diversified power system.

A Proud Achievement for Vietnam’s Power Sector

This recognition comes at a time when Vietnam is rapidly expanding and diversifying its power system to meet growing electricity demand while advancing its energy transition. Under the Adjusted Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), the country targets approximately 22.5 GW of LNG-fired power capacity by 2030, alongside significant growth in renewable energy, increasing the need for efficient and flexible generation that can help strengthen grid reliability and stability.

Less than a year after entering commercial operation in December 2025, Nhon Trach 3&4 has become an important addition to Vietnam’s power infrastructure, bringing large-scale, high-efficiency generation to the southern power system. The plant serves major industrial and economic centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, while providing flexible capacity that can complement the growing share of renewable energy on the grid.

For PV Power, the international recognition reflects both the significance of Nhon Trach 3&4 to Vietnam’s evolving energy system and the collective effort required to bring the country’s first LNG-fired power project into commercial operation.

“The recognition of Nhon Trach 3&4 at the 2026 POWER Awards is a significant milestone for PV Power and for Vietnam’s power sector. More importantly, it reflects the collective effort behind a pioneering project of this scale. Delivering Vietnam’s first LNG-fired power plant to world-class standards required close collaboration across technology, engineering and project execution, and this achievement is a testament to the strong partnership between PV Power, GE Vernova and our other project partners,” Nguyen Duy Giang, Vice President and CFO of PVPower.

A Defining Milestone for GE Vernova’s H-Class Technology

For GE Vernova, the recognition marks an important milestone for its H-Class technology in Southeast Asia and reinforces the growing role of highly efficient, flexible gas generation in supporting evolving power systems. Nhon Trach 3&4 is powered by two of GE Vernova’s 9HA.02 gas turbines, part of the company’s global HA fleet, which surpassed four million commercial operating hours in 2026 across 21 countries.

The project also demonstrates how GE Vernova’s H-Class technology can be deployed at scale to support both near-term power demand and longer-term system flexibility. The 9HA.02 turbines at Nhon Trach 3&4 currently operate on LNG and are engineered to support up to 50% hydrogen co-firing, with a future pathway toward 100% hydrogen capability.

“Receiving both the awards is an important recognition of what Nhon Trach 3&4 represents for Vietnam’s power sector and for the continued deployment of GE Vernova’s H-Class technology in Southeast Asia.” said Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO of GE Vernova's Gas Power business in Asia-Pacific. “The project demonstrates how advanced, high-efficiency gas power generation can support Vietnam’s evolving power needs, while also reflecting the local capabilities GE Vernova has built in the country over many years. We remain committed to supporting our customers with the technology, services and expertise needed to strengthen the reliability and flexibility of Vietnam’s power system over the long term.”

GE Vernova’s role in the project is also supported by its long-standing local footprint in Vietnam. The company’s technologies today help provide up to 30% of the country’s electricity needs, supported by more than 1,100 employees and local capabilities including its Phu My repair facility and Dung Quat HRSG manufacturing plant. HRSG for Nhon Trach 3&4 were manufactured at the Dung Quat facility, reflecting the contribution of GE Vernova’s in-country manufacturing capabilities to the project.
